Beaches in the Region of Murcia

Spanish name: Playas en la Región de Murcia

Beaches in Murcia. Carolina Beach in Águilas One of the main attractions of the Region of Murcia is its beaches. Known as “Costa Cálida” (warm coast), the region has 274 kilometers of Mediterranean coastline that stretches, North to South, from Mojón in San Pedro del Pinatar to Cuatro Calas in Águilas. This part of the country has over 3,000 hours of sunlight yearly, with mild average annual temperatures that make Murcia and its beaches a perfect bet in all seasons.

The Region of Murcia sits on a beautiful enclave between two seas, the Mediterranean and Mar Menor, considered the largest natural lake in Spain. Mar Menor is a salt-water lagoon near the Mediterranean Sea from which it is separated by a 22-kilometer stretch of land know as La Manga.

The Region of Murcia has a large variety of beaches: some pristine in natural settings of white, golden sand such as Calblanque and Calnegre, others remote and a few more located in urbanized areas with all kinds of services available. Mar Menor is known for its warm waters whereas La Manga del Mar Menor is considered a paradise between two seas. There are traditional fishing towns like La Azohía, Cabo de Palos, Águilas and Puerto de Mazarrón, among others, known for their charm and rich cuisine, full of quality fish and rice dishes, like caldero.

For sports and active tourism lovers, the Murcia beaches are ideal for scuba-diving, sailing, windsurf and canoing, whereas people who like lovely coastal landscapes will find in this coast some gorgeous settings and interesting routes, some of which lead to amazing coves.
