Barón Island. Mar Menor Islands and Open Spaces This group of protected areas forms the largest and most varied Wildlife Park in the Region, covering parts of the municipalities of Cartagena, San Javier and Los Alcázares. Some of the most appealing areas in the park are its islands, volcanoes, hills and beaches near Mar Menor.
 
The 1186 hectares in this park are protected as a site of Community importance and a part of the Natural Resource Management Plan and Special Bird Protected Area.
 
There are five volcanic islands among the 13 enclaves of this park:

Lastly, in Los Alcázares visitors can enjoy La Hita Beach.
