Ciervo Island

Mar Menor

Spanish name: Isla del Ciervo

Ciervo Island in Mar Menor Part of the municipality of Cartagena, this island is very near the South side of La Manga del Mar Menor. In fact, it is so near that some years ago it was possible to drive to the island on a paved road which was intentionally destroyed to favor bay regeneration and natural water circulation in the area. Nowadays it is possible to walk in shallow waters to get to the island.

Tourists and summer visitors go to two main areas: the South side, where swimmers take mud baths and the North side, where the waters are quiet, pristine and not busy at all.

The island, included in the Mar Menor Islands and Open Spaces Regional Wildlife Park, is categorized as Special Bird Protected Area. There are also native plant species such as small palm trees, European apteranthes and Periploca angustifolia.
