Marchamalo Salt Flats

The Marchamalo salt flats are inside Mar Menor Islands and Open Spaces, an area integrated in the Red Natura 2000 network as a Site of Community Importance. This wetland is home to colonies of Iberian toothcarp, a small fish that lives in continental, brackish waters in the Mediterranean coast. The Iberian toothcarp is currently protected by law as it is in danger of extinction.
