This lighthouse, also known as "
faro rojo" (red lighthouse), sits on Navidad Levee and works in parallel to
Curra Lighthouse or "
faro verde" (green lighthouse). Both levees and balises were built in the 19th century at the entry to the
Port of Cartagena to help boats avoid the underwater slab known for causing many vessels to sink in the old days.
The white and red lighthouse is a cylindrical 15-meter tower with a range of 10 nautical miles (18.5 kilometers).
