Portman Lighthouse

Portman
30364 -La Unión-

Spanish name: Faro de Portman

Portman Lighthouse in La Unión. Murcia The lighthouse in the town of Portmán sits on the little Punta de la Chapa headland 50 meters above sea level, left of the Portmán Bay. The lighthouse project began in 1863 with the aim of assisting the many ships that used to anchor at the bay back then. After its inauguration in 1865, the lighthouse underwent a number of modifications to upgrade its light source, being powered in 1960 and automated in 1977. As a result of the various changes made, everything was replaced but the tower and the lighthouse lantern, which are the original ones.

The lighthouse is comprised of a white tower and adjacent building, with a light source at an 8-meter elevation above the base and a 500 mm optical drum and 500-w lamp. The reach of the light beam is 13 nautical miles, some 24 kilometers. The white light signal has a 3.5 second period split in two: light for 2.5 seconds followed by a 1-second light-less interval.
