Unveiling landscapes in the Valley of Ricote

One of the reasons why Valle de Ricote is known and valued is its variety and abundance of natural and rural landscapes. The mountains, cliffs, forests, river, villages and orchards in the area embrace our senses at all times.

 

Abarán

Mirador Paseo de la Ermita is a view point accessible from Doctor Molina, street right next to plaza de la Zarzuela. This urban viewpoint, in which there is a garden and the Santos Médicos chapel (Cosme y Damián), looks over the terraced orchards and vast meander of the Segura river, with Sierra del Oro in front of it.

 

Archena

Miradores del Ope is a viewpoint on the small 277-meter hill located in Northern Archena. Miradores del Ope is considered an important semi-urban site of great geological, botanical, animal and landscape value. Sitting on the right bank of the Segura River, this is considered the south access to Valle de Ricote.

 

Blanca

Mirador del Alto de Bayna. To reach this viewpoint, go to plaza de la Farola, take Gran Vía and continue on the road leading to La estación (meaning "the Station" in Spanish). The viewpoint is supported by a large 30-meter metallic bridge over the Segura River.

 

Ojós

Mirador del Salto de la Novia. To get to this viewpoint, go to the Town Hall of Ojós; once there, take the street that goes down to the river and over the bridge to the right riverbank. There you will see lovely views of the orchards, the meadows and the arid, steep surrounding mountains.

 

Ricote

Mirador de La Calera. To access this magnificent lookout, take the Campo de Ricote road and after two kilometers and a few curves, take the dirt road on your left. It will take you to the forest house La Calera.

 

Ulea

Mirador del Gurugú. From Ulea, take the road that goes to the freeway and in the roundabout, follow directions for Archena. You will soon see the tower. This viewpoint, located pretty much at the back of the valley, has clear views of Azud del Golgo and of the entire orchard of Ulea.

 

Villanueva del Río Segura

Mirador de la Plaza de la Fábrica. You can access this viewpoint located in the urban center of this town from one of the side streets of Avenida Juan Carlos I. The viewpoint is in a large park with a recreational area and great views of the orchard of Villanueva, the Segura river and Sierra de Verdelena.
