El Gurugú is located in the south-eastern part of the town and was raised in the 19th century upon a small mount reinforced by the remains of Moorish buildings. It affords views of the Segura and the surrounding farmland.
Antonio Tomás Sandoval, an illustrious soldier born in Ulea was posted to Morocco and upon his return ordered it to be built in 1870 imitating the original structure in North Africa that was used as a lookout post.
