Our Lady of Hope Sanctuary

At the beginning of the 17^th century graduate Alonso Benitez de Mumera founded the Chapel of Fuensanta, known today as Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope. The Segura River waters have carved out terraces right next to this temple. As legend has it, devotion and veneration to the "Little One" began after her "appearance" to locals. In 1840 she was nominated Patron Saint of Calasparra, with her fiesta being celebrated on September 8.
