The
Castle of Librilla, is a medieval, Islamic construction built in the 11
th century according to historians and geographers. The castle, partly underground, is in the area where the
San Bartolomé church sits, next to the Orón ravine.
The hisn Limbraya, as it was known by the Muslims, was a defensive enclave for people and cattle and a place of shelter whenever there was danger.
In the past, the castle had seven towers, although only one stands. The wall and towers, built in line with the orography of the site, used to comprise an almost impregnable defense "zipper" structure.
