Fountain in Main Street

Calle Mayor
30640 -Abanilla-

Spanish name: Fuente de la Calle Mayor

Fuente de la Calle Mayor This fountain was put on its current location after the old fountain of Cañada, behind the Arab Castle, dried up.

During works to dig a new mine in 1880 from Main St. to the gardens of La Loja, a water flow was found and used to supply the new fountain and washing place.

These thermal waters flow at 20º C and are rich in sulfurous salts, giving them their unique taste and smell.

The fountain is decorated with colorful tiles showing people out in a parade to honor the Patron Saint and the esparto grass craftsmen, who played a key role in the area's economic growth up until the 1960s.
