Despite being a region of low rainfall and hot temperatures, Murcia has a wide variety of native plants compared to other regions where the weather is milder... But who knows, maybe region's tough climate conditions make our plants true survivors!
There are different environments throughout the region: the Northwest is colder and greener; the High Plains, dryer and cooler; the coast, milder with long-standing wetlands; the sections of the río Segura River (Vega Alta, Vega Media and Vega Baja) have soils were different types of plants grow; and in the Guadalentín Valley and Mula Basin, the conditions are the hottest and driest in the region.
This variety of geographical environments and weather conditions makes Murcia a region of significant botanical wealth in the rich Mediterranean Rim.
