Route to the Coves of Bolete Grande, Boletes and Aguilar

Cabo Tiñoso

Spanish name: Ruta de las Calas el Bolete Grande, Boletes y Aguilar

Route to the Coves of Bolete Grande, Boletes and Aguilar To do this route, take the RM-E22 connecting Cartagena to La Azohía, and then the road to Campillo de Adentro (RM-23), which is basically a group of houses near La Azohía.  Once in Campillo de Adentro, on your left you will see Bar Campillo, perfect for a little break at any time.  A few meters after the bar, take the paved road posted as “Camino Bocaoria” and “Camino Boletes”. About a kilometer later, you will be driving on a dirt road; keep going. In less that one kilometer, you will find a parking lot on your left. Park your car (picture 3), although if you have a 4WD you can keep driving another 700 meters to the start of the trail leading to Bolete Grande (trail on your left “Camino Boletes” –picture 4).

This trail goes to Cantalar and connects to the El Bolete ravine and the cove of Bolete Grande. If you like ravines, go off the trail at any point and get to the cove through the ravine; it's more fun and you will certainly enjoy the pinkish color of the oleanders. This 7.5-kilometer route is suitable for children. Do not forget to bring sunglasses, a hat, sun screen and water because the bar in Campillo de Adentro is the closest place to this area.

If you want to keep going, take the little trail East of Bolete Grande cove that will take you to the cove and house of Bolete, old civil guard barrack currently privately owned. Stairs go up from the beach to the barrack, where there is an easy trail that first goes inland and then back to the sea, to Aguilar cove.

This is another route that will take you straight to Bolete cove (picture 11 and after). If you have a 4WD, after passing the “camino Boletes” trail to the Bolete Grande cove, keep going and some 500 meters, you will see a "no entry" sign in an unfenced area. Don't worry, keep going and 900 meters later you will find a second "no entry" sign, but this time in a fenced area. There, you need to park the car properly (some locals told us that otherwise you may have an unpleasant surprise!)

If you keep walking on the wide trail, you will end up in house of Bolete. If the main trail is too boring, take alternative trails; don't worry, you won't get lost because the house of Bolete is always visible.

Once in Bolete cove, stairs go up to the civil guard barrack, where there is a trail that becomes a little pathway that circles around the valley, first going inland and then back to the coast running parallel to the GR-92. Do not forget to bring sunglasses, a hat, sun screen and water because the bar in Campillo de Adentro is the closest place to this area.
