This architectural complex, built in 1574 and comprising the Convent, Cloister and actual Church of San Francisco, was erected by order of the Marquis of Vélez in the old headquarters of the municipality of Mula.
The church, built in two phases between the 16th and 18th centuries, is a single-ward temple of Latin cross covered by an elliptical dome, whereas the chapel is covered by a shrine decorated with paintings.
The Renaissance facade, made mainly of stone, has semicircular arches with Ionic pillars, entablatures and a cornice decorated with a niche of triangular front.
