In the town of
Ojós there are two popular festivals: those of patron
Saint Augustine and those of
Virgen de la Cabeza celebrated in the second half of August.
There is a tradition, known as ofrenda de cohetes (meaning "rocket offering"), that comes from the 17th century when Captain Pedro de Albornoz agreed with a couple of locals that, to celebrate the festivities, he would bring two pounds of powder in two dozens of rockets, a half dozen of devil dancers, four bottle rockets, twelve bombs and twelve firecrackers. The tradition also includes a powder detonation offering to Saint Augustine and an image parade with impressive fireworks on August 28.
