In the iâmâmediateâ surroundings of Mazarrón Port, a series of sites known as âElâ Conjunto Romano del Alamillo or El Alamilloâ Roman Complexâ are placedâ. There are three different Roman sites, eachâ oneâ with a different character and chronology. One of the sites, dating from the Republic (between the 2nd century âBC aând the early 1st century AD) is La Loma del Alamillo, occupying the highest part of a small âisolated mountain atâ about 150 metres from the beach and which cannot be visitedâ at the momentâ. The archaeological excavations undertaken there have documented a shrine with its via sacra for access and â on top of the mountain were found several rooms with painted plaster walls and the remains of an altar in the main room
The visitable parts of the Alamillo Complex (1st century to the late 2ns century AD) are the industrial area of a Roman villa and a Roman water distribution cistern in Cabo Finisterre street in the neighbouring housing estate of El Alamillo
