In the early 16
th century, the chapel of Our Lady of Conception was built. In time and because of its location in the heart of the
Ricote Orchard, locals began calling it the Chapel of Our Lady of Orchards, name which remains to date.
Some info on this Chapel: in 1507 the building had a basilical ground plan structured around a central floor and two sides separated by columns. The three chapels were covered in wood.
The surroundings also play a key role: the name of the chapel reveals the strong link of Ricote to its orchards. In fact, the chapel sits on the areas known as "Huerta de Arriba" (upper orchard) and "Huerta de Abajo" (lower orchard), surrounded by gorgeous lemon trees, almond trees, various fruits trees and olive trees, all comprising the foundations for the economy of this municipality.
The chapel has been in ruins for over 200 years now.
