Near the town of
Mula de la Puebla, on an elevated area, sits the
Castle of Alcalá, visible from over 10 kilometers away. This 8
th century Muslim fortress is among
the oldest in the Region of Murcia. The castle was declared a Site of Cultural Interest and Historic-Artistic Heritage.
Architecturally speaking, the fortress is perfectly adapted to the hill on which it sits, with an oval floor and a maximum length of 125 meters. The hill was the first natural defense of this enclave as its height and steep access made it pretty much impregnable.
Access to the castle is free and through a
path from the bottom of the hill
