In the early 20
th century,
Águilas was a prosperous town with an economy based on iron exports to the UK. This activity resulted in a dynamic flow of shipments and in the presence of shipping lines, making Águilas one of the main Murcia Region destinations. All this trade and business favored the development of important cultural and social projects, the main one being the construction of "
El Casino" and "Arts and Trade Club".
Built in 1894 and 1895, the Casino is a lovely two-story building with a noble facade included in Spain's registry of historical assets.
