Jumilla

Famous for its Designation of Origin wines, Jumilla is located on the highlands of the Murcia Region, in an area where the coastal landscape meets the Castilian plains. The Coimbra del Barranco Ancho settlement could be considered the first urban area of the villa, which was destroyed in the 2^nd century BC. The Romans, whose rich heritage can be seen in the municipal museum Jerónimo Molina, and then the Arabs, who built a castle in the town they knew as Gumalla, were the main settlers of this area before the arrival of the King Alfonso X.

Although the people of Jumilla have historically grown many different types of crops, vineyards and the culture of wine have been in a league of their own for thousands of years. Over the last decades, the development of wine tourism has contributed to the inclusion of this town by the Ministry of Agriculture in the Ruta del Vino (Wine Route). Wine tourism gives visitors the opportunity to walk among vineyards, go to a concert in a winery, know more about winemaking and drink a glass while enjoying the local cuisine, which includes Gazpacho Jumillano, Trigoentero and Mortiriguelo. All this situated in a rural environment with historical-artistic sites and national monuments.
