Caputa Fountain

This family-friendly trail can be walked on many different routes and, if you are one of those that does not get tired  easily, walk to an area where you can enjoy a refreshing swim.

The route we present here is the easiest, as you can drive all the way to the actual rest area and river source. The way to the large pond is short and easy (some 1200 meters). The route can be started much earlier and be walked on a variety of forest trails and paths.

 

After parking in the designated area, cross on the bridge over the three large water pipes. A few meters later you will find the river source and, after a short distance, you will see the river already flowing. Very near is the first pond, kind of hidden between the oleanders. The trail is signposted and runs through pine trees before entering a ravine where there is a large rock next to the pillars of the Taibilla aqueduct, in the vicinity of a large pond on which water flows abundantly. In the summertime, you will probably find people swimming. Before getting to the pond you need to go over a steep area in which a steel cable has been installed to help you keep your balance if needed.

Take the freeway from Murcia to Caravaca de la Cruz and exit in Mula (the exit is posted as Mula, Yéchar). In the roundabout, take the road to Yéchar and right after getting to it, take the road on your left posted as Caputa. After driving pass a few houses, at the end of the town there is another sign on your left indicating the next road to take. Some 7 kilometers after taking this road, you will get to a rest area where you need to park your car. You can choose the long route (slightly over 13 kilometers) if about 300 meters after leaving behind the last sign you get on Perea ravine, where you can park and start the route. The trail is pretty easy: all you have to do is follow the ravine or the nearby paths.  

 

The distance between Murcia and the recreational area where you need to park your car next to the river source is 45 kilometers.
