Washing Place

Jardín de San Rafael
Puerto Lumbreras

Spanish name: El Lavadero Público

Washing Place In the old days there was no water supply in houses so the public washing place was the spot where village women did laundry. It also served as meeting point for chatting and commenting news and rumours from the village.

After the 1973 flood the washing place was rebuilt. The original sinks, dated from begining of XX centrury, are the only original element preserved. The washing place is supplied with water from the pond that proceeds from the Caño (Pipe ) and the Contracaño (Counter-Pipe).
