Spanish name: Torre del Pozo. Torre del Ladrón de Aguas
This tower was part of one of the fortresses around the town of
Cehegín in the 12
th century. The tower was used for two things because in addition to serving as a defense structure, it had a 40-meter deep well which collected water from river ground levels. For this reason, people knew the tower as “
ladrón de aguas”, meaning "water thief".
In order to perform this second function, engineers during that time built an animal-driven gear that moved a double chain attached to water-collecting devices.
