Our Lady of Maravillas Festivities

-Cehegín-

Spanish name: Fiestas de la Virgen de Las Maravillas

The festivities honoring Our Lady of Maravillas, Patron Saint of the town of Cehegín since 1725, are held every year from September 8 to 14. In the past, the town's Patron Saint was Saint Zenón, who probably started to be worshiped after the Templars arrived to the town in the Middle Ages. However, the insistence of the Franciscans at the Saint Stepanos convent led to the arrival of Our Lady, Mary image and sculptural jewel from the Neapolitan Baroque, who quickly gained the hearts of all Cehegin locals.

The town's festivities are created with the idea of promoting citizen participation, regardless their age, which is why many different activities are scheduled throughout the city at the same time. In addition to massive local participation, the town is taken over by a significant number of tourists!

All Festivities and Fair events are organized by the Town Hall, although the erection of barracks in the exhibition site is the responsibility of clubs or groups of friends who request municipal permits to install their own. In September 12, Cehegín holds a float parade during the International Folklore Festival in which participants are dressed with typical countryside costume.
