Plaza Juan Pablo II
Mazarrón, Murcia
Spanish name: Iglesia de San Andrés
The Church of St. Andrew was built by the Marquis of Villena. Of the original building only the main nave, with its beautiful Mudejar panelling, is conserved intact. The rest has undergone various refurbishments, giving it the aspect it has today. The ornamentation inside the church includes remains of wall paintings, and it has two doors, one of which is a side door forming the original entrance to the church and which, as described by Gonzáles Simancas who visited it at the beginning of the 20th century, bears the coats of arms of the Guzmán, Cisneros and Enríquez families amongst others, carved inside rounded reliefs representing garlands of flowers and fruit and similar to those of the chapel of Junterones, in Murcia Cathedral. The Church of St. Andrew has been declared a Monument of Cultural Interest.
