Plaza España, s/n
30800 Lorca, -Murcia-
Spanish name: Iglesia Colegial de San Patricio
Lorca, this is without a doubt the most important, interesting and significant. It was declared a Monument of Historical and Artistic Interest in 1941.
In a public vote, the people of Lorca agreed to build a church to Saint Patrick in commemoration of the victory against the Muslims in the Battle of Alporchones, that took place on the 17th March 1452, the feast day of the patron saint of Ireland. It was built to resemble a cathedral, a true reflection of the recuperation of the town, and giving it a more noble image. The construction took around 250 years to complete, and the Baroque style was introduced in the main entrance. This facade is one of the most important monument facades in the Region of Murcia.
