Plaza de Juan Moreno
Spanish name: Puente de la Alberca
This impressive stone construction spans the River Guadalentín and connects the distric of San Cristóbal with the city centre, with great views to the Castle and Lorca upper town. It is also one of the historical entrances to the town from the natural passage betwen Andalusia and the regional capital. Archaeological research has revealed intense commercial, military and crafts activities in the area since Roman times. A work of great precision, monumental character and sturdiness, it has survived important floods, such as that of Santa Teresa in 1879, or that of 1973. It features three large central flat arches, which emphasise the perception of horizontality.
