Moratalla

Moratalla Castle-Fortress Walking up to the castle through the narrow, winding streets of Moratalla is like touching with your very hands the old medieval silence while looking at life in harmony, away from the crazy buzzing of big cities. Although many civilizations have lived here before, the name Moratalla is the historical evolution of its original Roman name: Murata Tallea, meaning "walled with sticks". The history of Moratalla has evolved over more than 10,000 years of life, culture and art forms, like the beautiful cave paintings that have World Heritage status. The Castillo de Moratalla, a 9th-century castle and its Tribute Tower, are two other sites worth a visit.

If you like nature, you will love to know that Moratalla is the hilliest area in the Region of Murcia, with over 20 peaks above 1,400 meters. Pico de Revolcadores, with 2,027 meters in height, is the highest point in the entire region.
