Cieza

Panoramic View of Cieza and La Atalaya Capital of the fertile high-meadows of the Segura river, in the North of the Region of Murcia, Cieza has a rich cultural heritage and archaeological remains, including cave drawings, Iberian settlements, Roman ruins and the magnificent Medina Siyasa, a Hispanic-Muslim site on the Segura riverbanks built between the 12th and 13th centuries that had an estimated population of over 4,000 people. Cieza sits on a spectacular landscape cut by the Segura River and surrounded by mountains, including Sierra de Ascoy, Sierra de Almorchón and Sierra del Oro, forming a beautiful natural maze with a wide variety of trekking routes. In Cieza, visitors have access to numerous cultural options: in addition to the the abovementioned Palaeolithic and Neolithic remains and the Medina Siyasa site, make sure to check the church Iglesia de la Asunción, the viewpoint Mirador del Muro, and the chapels Ermita del Santo Cristo and Ermita del Buen Suceso.

Cieza has gained international recognition for its significant olive and peach production and exports; in fact, the town is known as "cuna del melocotón" (peach cradle).
