As the Segura river runs through the valley of Ricote, there is an area where the river course widens: that is where Villanueva del Segura was founded. The origin of the villa, like that of the rest of the valley, goes back to the period of Arab domination. The streets of Villanueva have the scent of nature, the taste of water in summer baths and the charm of culture throughout the valley. We highly recommend visiting the Asilo Hospital de Santa Isabel or small palace Palacete de Doña Isabel and the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Visitors can lodge in one of the many cottages and enjoy spectacular landscapes such as those seen from the San Roque and La Morra viewpoints. The charms of Villanueva del Segura do not end in its magnificent landscape; it has an extraordinary cuisine in which the dishes Pebre, Guiso de Trigo and orchard rice with beans, stand out above the rest.
