Mula

This monumental city sits on a fertile valley, with numerous palaces and monuments revealing the wealth of this domain of Marqués de los Vélez (Velez Marquis), who built an imposing castle overlooking the plains. Many people and civilizations that left their mark in the Iberian peninsula settled on this little town. The Iberians built a magnificent architectural compound: El Cigarralejo, whereas the Muslims founded the city of Mula in its current location. There are newer constructions also evoking remote experiences, such as the abovementioned Castillo de los Vélez (Marquis Velez is considered a national historical figure), Casa Pintada and the Marqués de Mena Hermosa palace. Easter in Moratalla is also well-known, especially the La Tamborada night, when every one goes out to beat their drums all night.

A mere 5 kilometers from the city there is a wild, spectacular place: Baños de Mula. This spa is very popular in the area for its thermal waters, used since Roman times and in high demand for those wanting to treat rheumatic diseases...or simply to relax.
